Ordinary Memory

from Blow My Cover by Ajay Mathur

/

about

Asuka, a renowned Koto musician from Japan beautifully combines traditional style of playing the Koto with her own contemporary style. The result is a haunting and enchanting version of this song, which originally appears on Ajay's fourth album Little Boat. Ajay contacted Asuka after being inspired by the project 'YY' by Asuka and a beat maker. The New Yorker classical cello artist Rachel Gawell contributed the cello parts and Ajay's Italian bandmate Fausto Medici created the thunderous wall of sound with Japanese Taiko-like percussion.

lyrics

I didn't care a little bit 'bout the way you broke this heart of mine. Then I did and I hid it in a place you couldn't touch me where it hurt so bad I wanna cry. Hide away this heart you broke. Way back then, way back when, I was so much less of me. Now it's an ordinary memory, just an ordinary memory, it's an ordinary memory of my time with you. Did you know? There is so much more inside of me now that I have finally set you free. Can you see? I am right here where I need to be. You couldn't take myself away from me. I picked myself right off the ground. The pieces of my heart were there, then I stood 'cause I could, and I headed for the doorway up where the air was so much clearer then. It doesn't matter anyway 'cause I'm here and I'm near all the things that count right now and you're an ordinary memory, just an ordinary memory. You're an ordinary memory that I keep with me. Did you know? There is so much more inside of me now that I have finally set you free. Can you see? I am right here where I need to be. You couldn't take myself away from me and you're an ordinary memory, just an ordinary memory. You're an ordinary memory that I keep with me. I didn't care a little bit 'bout the way you broke this heart of mine. Then I did. Yes, I did.
